Article: Disinfection of drinking water systems
Ensuring compliance with statutory hygiene requirements
According to Section 5 of the German Ordinance on the Quality of Water intended for Human Consumption (Trinkwasserverordnung, "TrinkwV"), drinking water must not contain any pathogens which pose a threat to human health.
Water is a highly protected natural resource. This is why the demands with regard to cleanliness and hygiene that are placed on those operating drinking water filling facilities are extremely high. Stationary drinking water systems must be disinfected every six months, mobile drinking water systems every three months. These specifications come from worksheet W 291 of the German association of the gas and water industry (Deutscher Verein des Gas- und Wasserfaches e.V., "DVGW").
